Dry Carbon Fiber vs Wet Carbon Fiber — What’s the Difference?
Not all carbon fiber parts are made the same. The biggest distinction comes down to how the carbon is processed — commonly known as dry carbon and wet carbon. Both use genuine carbon fiber weave, but the production method, finish, and performance are completely different.
Manufacturing Process
Dry carbon fiber parts are produced using a pre-preg (pre-impregnated) carbon cloth, where the exact amount of resin is pre-applied by the manufacturer. These sheets are then vacuum-sealed and cured under high pressure and temperature in an autoclave, removing excess air and resin.
The result is a light, extremely strong, and precisely formed component — the same process used in motorsport and aerospace applications.
Wet carbon fiber, on the other hand, uses a hand-lay or wet-lay method. The carbon cloth is laid into a mold and liquid resin is manually brushed or poured over it before curing. Because it’s not vacuum-bagged or autoclave-cured, there’s usually more trapped resin and air pockets, leading to a heavier part and a less uniform finish.
Weight & Strength
Dry carbon fiber is roughly 30–50% lighter than wet carbon. This is due to the controlled resin ratio — just enough to bind the fibers without unnecessary weight.
By comparison, wet carbon or carbon-over-fiberglass parts can be up to 70% heavier, since excess resin and fiberglass layers add mass without increasing stiffness.

Dry carbon also offers a much higher modulus of elasticity (~125 GPa), giving it outstanding rigidity under stress — ideal for aerodynamic and high-load components.
Visual & Structural Differences

Backside: A true dry carbon piece will look identical front and back — you can see the same woven pattern throughout.
Wet carbon or fiberglass-backed parts often have a dull, uneven underside with visible fiberglass texture or color variation. -
Edges: Solid dry carbon has clean, uniform black edges.
Wet carbon or overlay parts may show a white or grey line along the edge, revealing the fiberglass underneath — sometimes hidden with black paint trim. -
Finish: Dry carbon typically has a consistent matte or satin finish, while wet carbon can appear glossy but uneven due to hand-applied resin.

Look great, well made. Installing them is a challenge. Lining up the two small Allen head screws through the wire mesh, I have the OEM and a Red aftermarket mesh, was difficult and I ended up having to drill holes through them. Three of them have a nice camber and one of them wants to stay straight vertical. I am telling people that is how it is tuned for proper air flow. 😉

Added the dry carbon diffuser fins to my C8 and they made a huge difference in the rear end appearance. Gives the diffuser a much more aggressive, Fitment was spot on. Super clean OEM+ style mod that adds a lot of detail without being over the top. Definitely worth it if you want the rear of the car to stand out more.

The rear defusers look great and I would give them a 5, but the problem is “the fasteners provide are a joke”! No kidding aside. You here to provide studs 25 to 30 mm long 4mmby .70 pitch and 4 mm caps. Insert studs in upper holes insert through the screen and screw on washers and bolts. Below drill and use sheet meddle screws to screw into bottom. Put all 4 on in about an hour.

It would be very hard to install them without taking the bumper off because of the hardware that was provided. I bought 7 mm bolts and cut the heads off and then re-tapped them then installed into deflector. I suggest to provide 7 mm rods cut down to 2 inches and nuts.

Very difficult to install with the supplied screws behind the screen so I decided to use 3M tape instead. Best decision ever. Contrary to the description you will have to drill holes underneath to attach the fins. After taping them in place this was easily accomplished using my own screws it was a tighter fit and they look great and are sturdy. I’m happy with the outcome. Not sure how anyone can get behind the screen to attach the top screws but I did my own thing without having to lift the car.

Parts were good need to change the heads on the bolts to a hex head would make them easier to use. I decided to just use double sided to mount them. Screws were so hard to use.

After reviewing posts online about this product I consulted with my Corvette collision shop and they did a perfect install because they knew how to align and attach each diffuser fin. I do recommend this product and do not take installation lightly as your results may vary.
Not a perfect fit but relatively easy to install adds a lil extra
They’re definitely paint blemishes but not very noticeable unless you’re up close. I’d say they’re worth it for the price. The bolts are zinc tho. Get stainless steel bolts for the top two holes that go in the grill and stainless steel screws for the underbody. Zinc will eventually rust. I put 3M tape in the middle instead of drilling into the body.

The part gives the C8's rear end a unique look. It is definitely more aggressive.
They look great! We tried putting them on without taking the rear bumper off but that was difficult with factory exhaust. We had to remove back bumper.
Must include some template, the 2 inside pieces are only inserted in to the grill, 3 M tape on the part is needed to drill in to the bumper (bad idea). The hardware supply in not work in any way dhape or form, unless yor remove the bumper. For the other 2 pieces where are bolt in I got 2 pieces of headless screw SS 1 inch lung, reach from behind and srew a bolt on it, the other 2 1 inch headless screw SS just inserted in tk the grill. Worked great and are solid installed.
Fit and finish is really good. The hardware it comes with is not good quality. Spend a little and pick up some quality stainless fasteners. I got the Allen head bolts for the top of the fins that fasten through the screen. Much better.
