About Dry Carbon Fiber

Dry Carbon Fiber vs Wet Carbon Fiber — What’s the Difference?

Not all carbon fiber parts are made the same. The biggest distinction comes down to how the carbon is processed — commonly known as dry carbon and wet carbon. Both use genuine carbon fiber weave, but the production method, finish, and performance are completely different.

Manufacturing Process

Dry carbon fiber parts are produced using a pre-preg (pre-impregnated) carbon cloth, where the exact amount of resin is pre-applied by the manufacturer. These sheets are then vacuum-sealed and cured under high pressure and temperature in an autoclave, removing excess air and resin.
The result is a light, extremely strong, and precisely formed component — the same process used in motorsport and aerospace applications.

Wet carbon fiber, on the other hand, uses a hand-lay or wet-lay method. The carbon cloth is laid into a mold and liquid resin is manually brushed or poured over it before curing. Because it’s not vacuum-bagged or autoclave-cured, there’s usually more trapped resin and air pockets, leading to a heavier part and a less uniform finish.

Weight & Strength

Dry carbon fiber is roughly 30–50% lighter than wet carbon. This is due to the controlled resin ratio — just enough to bind the fibers without unnecessary weight.
By comparison, wet carbon or carbon-over-fiberglass parts can be up to 70% heavier, since excess resin and fiberglass layers add mass without increasing stiffness.
For reference:

  • Carbon Fiber Density: ~1.55 g/cm³
  • Fiberglass Density: ~2.6 g/cm³

Dry carbon also offers a much higher modulus of elasticity (~125 GPa), giving it outstanding rigidity under stress — ideal for aerodynamic and high-load components.

Visual & Structural Differences

  • Backside: A true dry carbon piece will look identical front and back — you can see the same woven pattern throughout.
    Wet carbon or fiberglass-backed parts often have a dull, uneven underside with visible fiberglass texture or color variation.
  • Edges: Solid dry carbon has clean, uniform black edges.
    Wet carbon or overlay parts may show a white or grey line along the edge, revealing the fiberglass underneath — sometimes hidden with black paint trim.
  • Finish: Dry carbon typically has a consistent matte or satin finish, while wet carbon can appear glossy but uneven due to hand-applied resin.

Nearly perfect! It’s a fantastic OEM + look. I only mounted it with the 4 brake light bar screws and used tape on the sides. I’ve got a little lift but nothin’ a heat gun can’t fix.

Overall finish and quality is top notch. Very nice product. My only complaint is bolt hole placement. Each side has 3, pre threaded holes. Once lined up and body marked, you only can use 2 of the 3 holes due to interference of the taillight recess. Supplied fasteners should be a 10mm head and not a Philips. I swapped them for a 10mm bolt.

I had mine painted body color and it came out pretty nice. Shipped quick and the packaging was great, wing quality is good, fitment is fine. My only gripe would be there has to be a way to design it for adhesive installation besides the 4 oem mount holes. I dont want to drill the car, and plenty of wings are held on with only 3m adhesive(BMW, Benz etc).

I am overall happy with the look and quality of the zr1 carbon fiber spoiler. I initially went with the extended spoiler but in my opinion is was a little to much for my base C6. But this on is just right it gives a sleek look and not look so obnoxious. The only thing I wish is that the spoiler had the studs instead of screws it was hard to line up and no I didn't drill any holes I just can bring myself to do it. So hopefully the stock holes will be enough to secure the spoiler.

The fit and finish of the ZR1 hydro dipped spoiler was top notch!! I would suggest EOS trimming off the plastic burrs on the underside edges of the spoiler... I shaved them off carefully with an xacto knife and it made the spoiler fit much more flush with the bumper. That said, here's a few things future customers might consider doing to make their installation a little easier...(as there were no instructions included) 1. Make sure all parts are in the box before starting...mine was missing the 6 grip nuts ((after contacting EOS they sent them out promptly) 1a. Check for burrs on underside edges of spoiler, and remove carefully with light sanding or an xacto knife. 2. Various ways to mark holes to be drilled, but I found using a dab of lipstick on the clip bolts worked best for me 2a. Tape area of bumper where you will be drilling...makes it easier for the lipstick to transfer, AND will give you a cleaner hole when drilling 3. After transferring the brake light, Do NOT install all of the 6 clip bolts initially...only install the innermost 2 CLIP BOLTS and mark them with the lipstick. 3a. (if you install all 6 clip bolts first and then attempt to transfer the lipstick to the bumper, because of the angle of the spoiler your marks will be off because you can't place the spoiler flush with the bumper) 4. Drill those inner 2 clip bolt marks starting with a small bit and working up to a larger size, until the spoiler with the 2 clip bolts seats flush with the bumper. 4a. (apply downward pressure to the center of the spoiler and observe if spoiler seats all the way down and is flush) (there should be no 'rubbing' noise of the bolts on the holes) 5. Install OUTER 2 clip bolts and repeat steps 3 and 4 (I skipped the middle 2 clip bolts, as the spoiler when installed flush, the bolts weren't needed I felt to insure stability of the spoiler Imo and made the installation easier) 6. Double check one last time, with the spoiler in place, that it sits flush over the entire length..if so remove tape. 7. When tightening the nuts, apply downward pressure to the middle of the spoiler and install the 2 nuts on the factory posts closest the brake light finger tight. 7a. Apply down pressure slightly further outward on each side and finger tighten the next 2 nuts on the factory posts. 7b. Apply down pressure slightly further outward on each side and finger tighten 2 nuts on the inner clip nuts. 7c. Apply down pressure on the end of each side of the spoiler and finger tighten the next 2 nuts on the outer clip nuts. 8. Start back at center, working outwards, and check nuts for firm, but finger tightened. 9. Step back and try not to drool as you admire the final look of the spoiler!!

Purchased a carbon fiber spoiler and splitter for my 2007 Z06. Ordering and delivery was top notch, both were well packaged and received without damage. I went with EOS based on reviews and the "reasonable" price point compared to other companies. Unfortunately, spoiler installation was quite challenging. This was very surprising given all the reviews on this site saying it was easy. (Maybe full carbon is different than the others?) No instructions were provided, and the linked YouTube video doesn't give enough information. Things to prepare for your installation: 1. There are 6 Phillips and 4 factory style "wood screw" to machine studs included. However, only 4 plastic washers were provided. The Phillips screws are nearly impossible to install since there is no straight access to them from below. Plan on buying new screws with a better drive type and some extra washers. (Hex, Allen, etc...) NOTE: These are M6, NOT 1/4-28. 2. The 4 factory holes are supposed to be used with either reused or the provided factory studs. This will not work because the replacement spoiler does not sit down in the factory body recess, making the factory length screws way too short. NOTE, there are 8 threaded inserts. The 2 that can use the studs also retain the 3rd brake light. The other two have treaded inserts. I bought longer screws and tried for hours without luck getting them threaded. This is most likely due to lineup issues since the inserts are so high above the bumper. 3. The factory brake light fits TIGHT! Thought I was going to break something installing it, but thankfully no. Once installed, it does not sit flush like the factory unit. This, combined with the recess issue makes it impossible to connect the wiring harness to the light. I had to Dremel more than 1/4" out of the bumper to give enough clearance to connect the harness. Given the recess issues and light placement, you cannot connect the light before installation, so make sure you modify the bumper first. 4. The 2 factory style screws that retain the brake light go directly into the carbon fiber and are basically impossible to keep from stripping out. Ended up gluing them into place. Not too concerned with this because the brake light fits so tight in place. In the end, I was able to get the 6 outer screws installed along with the double-sided adhesive strips. Given only one of the 4 factory nuts was still there, 6 should be more than adequate. Once installed it really does look good. Absolutely zero complaints with fit and finish. It's unfortunate the installation issues haven't been resolved; they are so close to this being a fantastic product! SPLITTER INSTALL: As difficult as the spoiler install was, the splitter was total opposite. Took maybe an hour including unboxing, installation, and cleanup. There were several holes not in the factory design, haven't decided if I'll drill them in or not since the ones that did line up seem to hold it in place. Really nice product!
